While many people are aware that car insurance is necessary in order to operate a motorized vehicle legally, you may not often think of the reasons why having this insurance benefits you. It's not just about obeying the law and avoiding a ticket. Having auto insurance works in your favor in many different ways that you may not be aware of. Don't pay every month for something that you don't understand. Take the time to investigate the reasons it is beneficial to you to have car insurance any time you are driving.
Accidents
If you are involved in an accident and it is found that it was your fault, you will be financially responsible for the damage done not only to your car, but also to the cars of others involved in the accident. These damages can total thousands of dollars before the situation is resolved. The average driver doesn't have that kind of money sitting around. This is where auto insurance comes in and helps you to cover the costs of repairs on cars or replacement cars.
In the event of an accident that is not your fault, you may find that the other driver doesn't have insurance. Most insurance companies in will offer the option of adding additional coverage for when you find yourself in these altercations with those who are uninsured or underinsured. Once again, your insurance works to protect you financially by ensuring that your repairs are covered even though the accident was not your fault.
Minor Repairs
So what happens when a rock bounces up and hits your windshield and cracks it? Or when you back into a pole and your car needs to be repaired and you don't have the money? This is another example of when your auto insurance will step in to help you. Most insurance policies will pay for a windshield replacement at minimal cost to you. You can also make a claim for repairs that are needed from a minor accident such as backing into a pole. Large accidents are not the only time that your car insurance will come in handy. Even those little pesky details can be handled with good auto insurance.
Avoid Fines And Tickets
As stated earlier, the law in all states requires that you have auto insurance. While specific requirements will vary from state to state, it is always required that you have some type of car insurance. If simply obeying the law doesn't motivate you to purchase car insurance, think of the financial consequences of not having insurance. If you get pulled over for speeding and get a ticket, you are looking at the cost of a speeding ticket and a ticket for not having insurance. These tickets can become costly and with too many of them, your ability to drive a car may disappear.
The advantages to having good auto insurance coverage greatly outnumber the disadvantages of making the payment every month. Any time you start to think that the money you are paying is not worth the coverage you are getting, consider the consequences of driving without the right auto insurance. You will either find yourself without a license, in trouble with the law, or up to your neck in car related debt.
