OK, take this test.

A. A squad car of the Sheriff's Dept.
B. An employee of the Sheriff's Dept.
C .The personal vehicle of a deputy.

Here's the answer. I'll give you the "lawyer's answer" (even though I am not a lawyer). The answer is, "It depends."

If the parking space is for employees, then that's how it should be marked. And there is certainly no reason for deputies to get preferred parking behind the courthouse, any more so than any other employee in the courthouse. "Sheriff Squad" parking should be for "squad" cars of the Sheriff's Department. That's pretty simple, isn't it?

If there is a need for an unmarked or undercover car to have in special parking, then mark certain spaces as Reserved parking. (Why would an undercover car ever be in Sheriff's Department parking, anyway? But we went through that one last year, after what appeared to be a privately-owned vehicle (but which was later "outed" by the Sheriff's Department as an undercover car) was fueled at the Sheriff's Department gas pump and then driven over to and parked in the Sheriff's Department parking lot.)

Wait. Maybe the motorcycle is a new fuel-efficient, unmarked vehicle of the Sheriff's Department. I didn't think about that possibility.
