June 25, 2005

Italian Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi has won the Dutch motorcycling Grand Prix Saturday, the second straight year that he has won the race and his sixth win of this season.

Rossi began the race in the pole position, but had to overcome a poor start. With his time of 38:41.808 seconds, he was able to defeat fellow Italian Marco Melandri by a margin of 1.583 seconds.

Rossi's Yamaha teammate, Colin Edwards of the United States, finished in third place with a time of 38:49.451 seconds, 7.643 seconds behind Rossi.

The win increases Rossi's lead over Melandri in the overall standings to 63 points (170-107) after seven races of the 17-race season. It is the 74th career win for the six-time world champion.
