I was reminded of a day in Kansas City, when I was stopped at a red light. On my right was a Brink's truck, and the driver was honking at the station wagon in front of him and gesturing toward the driver. I could see the driver looking in her rearview mirror, and she was waving back with that distinctive middle finger in the air. The Brink's driver kept honking the truck's horn.
Then I noticed that there was a purse on the roof of the car.
When the light turned green, and I pulled alongside her and honked and pointed at the roof of her car. She gave me the finger, too. But I didn't give up.
I ran down the window on the right and shouted, "Lady! Your purse is on the roof!" Boy! Did her face get red...
She pulled over, and the Brink's truck pulled over behind her. She retrieved her purse and waved an apology at the driver. I called the Brink's dispatcher and reported that driver - for his good deed. He certainly earned a steak dinner for his efforts, but I doubt he got it.
