Parking - Problem or Not
Gus Philpott
Woodstock Advocate

Is there a parking problem on the Square?
The survey on
The Woodstock Advocate revealed
13 (25%) say Yes
39 (75%) say No
The parking consultants hired by the City of Woodstock think the parking situation is pretty much under control. You can read (or glance through) their 99-page report on www.woodstockil.gov/ (Put down that magnifying glass and click on the photo to enlarge it.)
The problem is that shoppers and customers want to park right at the door of the business for which they are headed. Once drivers enter Main Street from Church, then they want to be able to park. I mean, right now.
Drivers and shoppers can be educated, so let's get with it. If you are heading for a restaurant on Main St. or the movies, then park in the train station parking lot.
Expecting drivers to do this means that Woodstock needs to make very sure that cars parked there are safe and secure and that it's safe for residents, visitors, tourists (all!) to walk back and forth. No one wants to return to his car after spending a bundle on the Square and find his car vandalized, looted or stolen.
Keeping people and vehicles safe requires the attention of all - citizens and police.
Woodstock needs to become an extremely UNFRIENDLY town - for the criminals of all ages!
