THE BIG RACE

The Day Book, Noon Edition (Chicago, Illinois)
August 30, 1913

Elgin, Ill., Aug. 30.—Joe Dawson, Ralph DePalma, and Eddie Grant are favorites picked as probable winners in the 301-mile Elgin National Trophy.

DePalma, winner of yesterday's race, and Dawson, who finished second, complained that the rough course made the long grind a torture, and asserted that with the track cut I to ruts with yesterday's race it would be folly to predict that the bigger cars entered today would make better time.
