City Council deletes certain speed limits

Gus Philpott
Woodstock Advocate
August 3, 2011

As part of its Consent Agenda at last night's meeting, the Woodstock City Council handled, without discussion, the deletion of speed limits on certain city streets.

This was done as an acknowledgement that the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) sets speed limits on State highways such as Route 47 (known locally as Seminary Avenue and South Eastwood Drive) and Route 120 (known locally as McHenry Avenue and Washington Street (and connecting streets)).

On Seminary Avenue the City Code had shown a speed limit higher than was posted by IDOT. Thanks to the City Council for addressing and correcting the inconsistency in speed limits. A smart driver and a crafty attorney might have beaten speeding tickets, had they argued the matter in court.
