At Least 23 Dead in Mexico Bus Crash

VOA News
April 15, 2007

At least 23 people have been killed and 11 others injured in a crash between a passenger bus and a tractor-trailer in Mexico.

Authorities say the bus was speeding when it crashed into the tractor-trailer Saturday outside Ciudad Juarez, near the border with the U.S. state of Texas.

They say the tractor-trailer's fuel tank exploded in the wreck, setting the bus on fire and trapping many of those who died. The bus driver was among those killed.

Deadly bus crashes are common in Mexico, with poor maintenance and driver error cited as the main causes.

Some information for this report was provided by AP.
