India Bus Accident Leaves 25 Dead

Indian officials say at least 25 people have died after a crowded passenger bus slid down a ravine in the mountainous northern state of Himachal Pradesh.

Officials say the accident happened late Monday when the bus rolled down a hill after stopping to pick up stranded passengers of another bus that had broken down.

At least 25 people were injured in the accident. Rescuers were still attempting to reach some of the passengers early Tuesday.

India has the highest road death toll in the world with more than 110,000 people dying every year in accidents often caused by poorly maintained roads, careless driving and improperly maintained vehicles.
