Despite the reduction to the bikes’ capacity in the MotoGP class from a 990 cc to 800 cc Rossi was able to establish a new record. The preceding finest lap was 1:39.064 set by Loris Capirossi on a Ducati in 2006.
Rossi's main title rival Dani Pedrosa from Spain was second quickest, 0.133 down on a Yamaha, while the Italian's team mate Colin Edwards clocked the third fastest time.
Spaniard Dani Pedrosa was driving a Honda and he expected to push Rossi all the way. Pedrosa was able to beat Capirossi's 2006 record while Rossi's American team-mate Colin Edwards, set the third best time of the day with 1:39.300.
The last official test turned into a shoot out between Rossi and Pedrosa. These two riders will be facing each other once more at the next season opening Grand Prix in Qatar on March 10th and will be for sure pushing each other’s limits to the cutting edge to proof who is master on the speedway.
