Far Rockaway Merchants Take Action During Taxi Trouble.
Free transportation between Norton Street, Far Rockaway, and McNeal Avenue, Inwood, dividing line between Queens and Nassau Counties, is being provided by Far Rockaway merchants who are fighting the Far Rockaway Taxi Association. The taxi drivers secured an injunction from Justice Van Sicklen on Nov. 24 to restrain Paul M. Wiedman, President of the Nassau Bus Lines, from running his busses into Queens County. The Board of Estimate will take action.
The business men assert that the taxi men are overcharging, while Wiedman says they operate illegally. Pending the decision the "conveyance bus" will continue the free half mile trips.
