RHINEBECK, April 7.—The contract to take down the big hill near the station of the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad at Rhinecliff was awarded to-day by the town of Rhinebeck to Egbert M. Haines. This is preparatory to the use of electric automobiles which are soon to be used on the route between Rhinecliff and Rhinebeck by the company in which Col. John J. Astor is interested. The highway between Rhinecliff and Rhinebeck and to Ferncliff, the ancestral home of the Astors, is the finest piece of macadamized road in the State. There is no place in the State where there are better roads than here.
