To the Editor of The New York Times:
In regard to the unnecessary noise in the streets of New York, I heartily agree with your correspondent. It is certainly true that the ordinance forbidding the operation of automobile engines without mufflers is being violated with impunity all over the city of New York.
A compliance with this law involves no hardship for the motorist, and as a motor car owner I must deplore the thoughtless action of those who are unwilling to comply with such a reasonable regulation and by their disregard of the rights of others do much toward fostering the prevalent feeling of hostility toward the automobile.
A little activity on the part of the police ought to eliminate the nuisance.
MOTORIST.
