J. C. Livermore's Motor Vehicle Burned.
The New York Times

Special to The New York Times.

NEWPORT, June 9.—John C. Livermore's gasoline motor vehicle was burned this afternoon in front of the Newport Golf Club entrance. Mr. Livermore had been playing golf, and was about to step into his motor vehicle when a flame shot out from underneath the carriage, and in a few seconds the whole vehicle was in a blaze. Mr. Livermore attempted to extinguish the flames, without success, and the fire alarm was sounded. A few minutes of hard work extinguished the fire, not, however, before the motor vehicle was a wreck.

Speed of Motor Vehicles in Newport.
The New York Times

Special to The New York Times.

NEWPORT, June 19.—More cottagers have called upon the Mayor to complain of the speed with which William K. Vanderbilt, Jr., passes through the city in his motor vehicle.  At Portsmouth, between here and Tiverton, the Town Council will hold a special meeting on Monday to act on a petition praying that the speed of motor vehicles be regulated for the safety of the people.  This afternoon a steam vehicle frightened a horse attached to a buggy, and the animal jumped clean over the fence and on to the lawn of the Scott villa, in Bellevue Avenue.  Fortunately no one was hurt, but the trap and horse were injured.
