FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hawksworth 14th for Second Dual in Detroit Race Detroit, MI - June 1,
2014 - Jack Hawksworth drove a hard-fought race to finish in 14th
on Sunday afternoon in the Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken
Loans. After qualifying 19th and starting on the inside
of Row 10, Hawksworth was able to gain five spots in the very first lap of the
70-lap competition. By lap four, he was up to 12th. The 23-year-old rookie focused forward and advanced in
position, eventually leading the race on lap 34. The team then had a clean pit
stop and Hawksworth made a great save on his exit lap, narrowly missing an
incident with Takuma Sato and Ryan Briscoe. One lap later, the team received a drive-through penalty for
exceeding pit lane speed during the pit stop. When the checkered flag flew,
Hawksworth brought home a 14th place finish.
"It wasn't the best day for the Integrity Energee Drink team," said Hawksworth.
"We started near the back and then unfortunately, we got that drive-through
penalty. We just weren't quick enough today but the team worked really hard and
I'm sure we'll be able to come back strong, so it's on to the next one." In one week, the Verizon IndyCar Series heads south to Texas
Motor Speedway for the Firestone 600, the final stop after five consecutive
weekends on track. The 248-lap competition under the lights of TMS will take
place on Saturday, June 7 at 8 p.m. ET. Fans can catch all the racing action
live on NBC Sports Network.
