FBI Arrests Shelby, Mississippi Police Officer

Special agents of the FBI arrested Shelby, Mississippi police officer Ronnie Walters, aka “Ronnie Dog,” this morning, based on a federal complaint filed yesterday in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi. The complaint is the result of an FBI investigation into allegations that Walters aided and abetted others in maliciously damaging and destroying by fire vehicles belonging to two Shelby, Mississippi aldermen.

Daniel McMullen, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Mississippi, stated, “There is a stark distinction between officers who honor their oath to uphold the laws of the land and those who do not. The FBI is charged with investigating and bringing to justice the small minority of law enforcement officers who fail in this regard. The public expects and deserves nothing less. We appreciate the cooperation of the Office of Acting United States Attorney William C. Martin during the pendency of this investigation.”

Walters, age 45, is expected to make an initial appearance Wednesday afternoon before United States Magistrate Judge David Sanders in Oxford, Mississippi.

The public is reminded that a complaint contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. Defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial, at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
