FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Top 15 for Hawksworth at Texas Motor Speedway Fort Worth, TX - June
8, 2014 - Jack Hawksworth finished the Firestone 600 in 15th
place on Saturday night after an exciting finish for the Verizon IndyCar Series
under the lights at Texas Motor Speedway. Hawksworth will use the second oval of the 2014 season as a
learning experience and build on what he learned at the 24-degree, banked track
moving forward. The No. 98 Integrity Energee Drink team had a successful test
at the 1.5-mile TMS oval in April. Hawksworth started in 20th place for the
Firestone 600 on Saturday evening. His crew completed five full pit stops
during the first 240 laps of the race and then one more quick stop for fresh
tires with eight laps to go in the competition. The 23-year-old rookie ran as high as 14th during
the 600-kilometer race and finished in 15th. "It was a pretty tough night," said Hawksworth. "We started
off struggling a little bit but we made the car better throughout the race. It
was just a little bit too late. It wasn't the result we wanted but we have a
couple of weeks off now so everyone can regroup. "We're really looking forward to coming back in Houston.
That's when we can hopefully turn our season around and start getting some
results. We certainly showed at the beginning of the season that we can be
strong so we'll go from there." Team co-owner Bryan Herta added, "I'm really proud of Jack
and all of the boys. It was a tough start to the day but they hung in there. We
kept making adjustments on the pit stops and by the end of the race we were
pretty racy. It's just a shame that it took until the end of the race to get
the car that Jack needed. "I think Jack learned a lot and it was good to get another
finish for the Integrity Energee Drink team. We're looking forward to getting
back on a street course and racing these guys." In three weeks, the Verizon IndyCar Series heads to Houston
for the Shell and Penzoil Grand Prix of Houston presented by the Greater
Houston Honda Dealers. The double header will take place on Saturday, June 28
and Sunday, June 29 with both races beginning at 3 p.m. ET on NBC Sports
Network.
