Nebraska Man Pleads Guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter

United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced that Timothy Hotz, age 60, of Rushville, Nebraska, appeared before US District Court Chief Judge Karen E. Schreier on January 8, 2009 and pled guilty to count I of an indictment that charged Hotz with involuntary manslaughter. The maximum penalty upon conviction is eight years' imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. On August 27, 2008, Hotz, while driving a vehicle, struck two pedestrians and left the scene of the accident. Both victims died of severe blunt trauma and extensive injuries. The investigation was conducted by FBI and BIA. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Mara M. Kohn. A presentence investigation was ordered and a sentencing date has been set for March 30, 2009. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the US Marshal pending sentencing.
