Police Are Watching Automobile Drivers

Police Are Watching Automobile Drivers

The Urbana Daily Courier
January 6, 1921

Motor vehicles without the 1921 licenses will be closely checked this year and all car and truck owners should see to it that the new permits are applied as soon as received.  A large number have secured their plates but have neglected to change the new for the old.  Chief Gleason states that a reasonable time will be allowed to make the shift, but in the meantime all car and truck drivers should have their application blank coupons ready to show to the officer when asked to do so.  Those who have not sent in their applications had better get busy.

Chauffeurs and their employers are affected by the chauffeur license of the state.  Lawfully a man cannot drive his car until he has a license, but the rule will be a bit elastic as far as the older chauffeurs are concerned.  If they show that they have sent their money in for a new license the chief will give them ample time to receive them.

Owners of cars who hire chauffeurs should see that their men have their licenses or have applied for them.  Any owner who hires a chauffeur without a license is just as liable to a fine as the chauffeur.
