PHOENIX—Billis Warner, 21, of Kaibeto, Ariz. was sentenced on Monday by U.S. District Judge David G. Campbell to 18 months in federal prison followed by a six month placement in a residential alcohol rehabilitation program. He was also sentenced to three years supervised release. Warner pleaded guilty on April 1, 2009 to assaulting a victim on the Navajo Nation Indian Reservation.
The facts showed that on August 16, 2008, Billis Warner and family members became intoxicated on a drive from Page, Ariz. back to their home in Kaibeto, Ariz. and an argument developed. As such, they stopped their vehicle to fight. During the course of the fight, Warner got back into the family vehicle, a Buick, and drove it over his brother as he was walking away. Remarkably, the brother was not seriously injured.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Navajo Police Department and the FBI in Flagstaff. The prosecution was handled by Roger Dokken, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
