Media Advisory

The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) today announced that it will hold a public meeting on April 30 and that it has formally requested public comment as to whether motorcoach occupant protection standards need to be changed.

The meeting is being held jointly with Transport Canada because Canada shares a common interest in the safety of passengers who ride in these motorcoaches (intercity buses). The meeting will provide an opportunity for NHTSA and Transport Canada to hear the views and comments of manufacturers, operators, users, interest groups, and the public at large.

The meeting will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the meeting room of the National Transportation Safety Board, 429 L'Enfant Plaza, S.W., Washington, DC. A final agenda will be available on the day of the meeting.

More details about the meeting and specific issues involving the request for comment are available from a notice in the Federal Register, Volume 67, Number 60, page 14903, or on the Internet at http://dms.dot.gov/, docket #11876.
