Independents Resent the Presence of Other Cars Inside the Gates.
When the White Star liner Olympic arrived last night at Pier 59 North River from Southampton and Cherbourg with 605 cabin passengers on board there was a demonstration of more than 400 independent taxicab drivers outside against the action of officials of the company in allowing the American Yellow Taxi Operators, Inc., to drive inside the gates to pick up fares. The drivers sought to cause congestion at the exits from the elevators, but failed. Hitherto the Black and White Taxicab Company had been employed, but has a strike on its hands. The independents said the Yellow Taxi men did not belong to the drivers' union.
