Let’s Not Say Goodbye, Just Au Revoir To A True Pocket Rocket

Renault Twingo
The hugely entertaining Twingo Renaultsport 133 has been with us for five years now during which time the Company have sold 1203 cars - a good number for a niche car. Sadly, now it is time for this version at least to be retired to a nice rural paddock somewhere in the countryside. If you’re interested, at the time of writing there were still six of these little gems available from dealers.

‘Son of Twingo’ it is hinted at, is set for launch next year and with the trend for smaller, more efficient cars should be instantly in demand. Like a lot of small motors the Twingo is a blast to drive although, on paper, it isn’t hugely fast. That’s not the point. It’s about having fun and when no less a luminary than Jeremy Clarkson extols it’s virtues (you may remember him hurtling about Belfast in one) then buyers can be confident with their purchase. We await to see whether Renault will retain the 1.6L naturally aspirated engine or go for a three or even two pot turbo charged version. The company remain officially tight-lipped. There is no confirmation of a sporty version of the anticipated new city car. Nevertheless speculation abounds. No smoke without fire and so on. We’ll see next year.
