HUNTERSVILLE, North Carolina (October 1, 2014) - - Reid Wilson Racing (RWR) announced today that X-1R Pro Cup Series championship contender Reid Wilson remains sidelined following injuries sustained at Southern National (N.C.) Motorsports Park last month.

Contact between Reid Wilson and another competitor in the Gold Leaf 200, sent Wilson’s No. 66 Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits Chevrolet hard into the outside wall and a trip to a local hospital for medical attention.

Since returning to his home in Huntersville, N.C., Wilson has remained under care from his personal physician and a sports injury specialist, who suggested that he once again sit out this weekend’s Morgan-McClure Ford / Chevrolet 200 at Lonesome Pine (Va.) Raceway in order to make a full recovery.

Wilson, however, is expected to be cleared to compete as early as next week, in time for the X-1R Pro Cup Series season finale at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway later this month.

“I’m bummed I won’t be able to race this weekend at Lonesome Pine, but I would rather be safe than sorry,” said Wilson who maintains fifth in the championship standings, despite missing the most recent race. “Our focus now turns to 100 percent concentration on Hickory in a couple weeks. We want to end the season on a high note, much like we started the season.”

While Wilson’s recovery has progressed steadily, he hasn’t let the setback stop him from representing his sponsor Bojangles’ off the racetrack.

On Tuesday, Wilson attended the Bojangles’ Annual Golf Classic which benefited the Charlotte Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The event, in its 16th year of existence raised nearly $260,000.00 at the Providence Country Club in Charlotte.

“I’m always honored to attend Bojangles’ Golf Classic,” mentioned Wilson. “The Muscular Dystrophy Association is an organization that I support and devote as much time and effort as my schedule allows. I met several remarkable kids and their outlook on life brings me much joy and happiness. I look forward to keeping in touch with them.”

Looking ahead, Wilson will also make several appearances at Hickory, North Carolina area Bojangles’ restaurants leading up to his expected on-track return on October 18.

In addition to signing autographs and showcasing his No. 66 Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits Chevrolet, Wilson will also have opportunities for customers to win free tickets to the Bojangles’ 250.

“I can never get enough Bojangles’ and the people who work there. They are like family,” Wilson said. “Hickory is an important race for me. Not only will it be my return to Pro Cup, but it’s a hometown race that will have a lot of support from friends and family. There would be nothing more perfect then to score my first ProCup victory in my sponsor’s race.”

Further updates on Wilson’s medical clearance will be released as it becomes available.

The Morgan-McClure Ford / Chevrolet 200 is set for Saturday night, October 4 with a scheduled green flag shortly after 7:00 p.m.
