MARNE, Michigan (August 12, 2012) - - An exceptional performance at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis a few weeks ago had given high hopes for Mason Mingus and the Win-Tron Racing team for Saturday night’s Berlin ARCA 200 presented by Hantz Group at Berlin (Mich.) Raceway.
Unfortunately, the team never had the opportunity to shine as the motor seized during the parade laps for the 15th ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race of the year forcing the Brentwood, Tennessee native to make the sharp left-hand turn into the pit lane which subsequently would become the garage area and park the No. 32 Call 811 Before You Dig Chevrolet for the night.
Earlier in the day, Mingus, the soon-to-be High School senior worked with crew chief Mark Rette on fine-tuning their automobile for the 17-year old’s attempted ninth start of the season. After managing the 12th quickest effort in the first practice run, the team began to show their cards during the final practice effort which saw Mingus jump his No. 32 Call 811 Before You Dig Chevrolet to sixth quickest overall.
While the team didn’t have the qualifying result they were looking for – they were still highly confident their driver would get up on the wheel and give the team the opportunity to score back-to-back victories at the 0.4-mile paved oval. Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be.
Mingus would be credited with a 29th place finishing effort because of the oil leak. Despite the misfortune, the driver praised his team for their efforts.
“It’s just one of those things, it stinks, there’s not hiding around that,” said Mingus. “I felt like we had a good car, something capable of running in the top-five for sure, but the car would never start from the grid and I knew I was doomed from there. There’s not much we can do except pick up the pieces and move on to Springfield. The guys did everything they could but they were hindered just like I was.”
Nate Thiesse co car-owner of Win-Tron Racing offered his thoughts on the unforeseeable circumstances. “It’s disappointing and disheartening all at the same time. Mason, Mark and the entire Win-Tron Racing team did a good job getting the car ready for the race. Regrettably, Mason was never given the opportunity to shine on the track as we experienced an oil leak before the green flag. All we can do is try and move on with a positive attitude and front, diagnose the engine and see if there is anything we can learn from it and try again next weekend.”
Next up for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards in their 60th anniversary season is the first of two dirt tracks on the 2012 schedule. The Allen Crowe 100 from the Illinois State Fairgrounds (Springfield) is set for Sunday, August 19 with the 100 lap-event scheduled to take the green flag shortly after 1:00 p.m. (Central). Mingus will make his “dirt” debut in a stock-car with only five races remaining this year.
On top of Berlin Raceway, Mingus’s current ARCA schedule also includes the Illinois State Fairgrounds (Springfield), Madison (Wisc.) International Speedway and the traditional Fall Salem (Ind.) Speedway classic.
In addition to Call 811 Before You Dig, Diamond Equipment leaped aboard the team as an associate marketing partner for Mingus’s 10th-career ARCA start.

About Call 811 Before You Dig:
811 (call811.com) is the new number you should call before you begin any digging project. A new, federally-mandated national "Call Before You Dig" number, 811 was created to help protect you from unintentionally hitting underground utility lines while working on digging projects. People digging often make risky assumptions about whether or not they should get their utility lines marked due to concerns about project delays, costs and previous calls about other projects. These assumptions can be life-threatening.
Every digging job requires a call – even small projects like planting trees or shrubs. If you hit an underground utility line while digging, you can harm yourself or those around you, disrupt service to an entire neighborhood and potentially be responsible for fines and repair costs.
