Jeffrey Runge, M.D., Administrator for National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will unveil the agency’s 2004 report on highway fatalities nationwide. The data will include comprehensive state-by-state information. Dr. Runge will discuss the latest traffic fatality statistics at a news conference in Buffalo, New York, on August 1, 2005.

The press conference will be held at the Calspan Corporation in its vehicle crash test facility where vehicle safety testing is conducted.

Since 1975, NHTSA has annually collectedthe number of fatalities caused by traffic crashes involving passenger vehicles, cars, trucks and motorcycles within the 50 states, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The statistics are compiled through a number of resources, including police accident reports, death certificates, state driver licensing files, data from state highway departments, and other records.
