LAS VEGAS --
At the 2012 Pacific Street Car Association season opener in Las Vegas Feb. 17-19, Mallicoat Brothers Racing will make its PSCA debut in the Pro Street category. While Gary and Jerry Mallicoat may be new to PSCA, they are definitely not new to the sport of drag racing, currently competing in their sixth decade of top-level motorsports.

The Prescott, Ariz. natives started racing in the 1960s and kicked their careers off right, winning back-to-back NHRA Winternationals titles in the B/GS classes. The ’65 victory was especially memorable as it was the first time a turbo-charged race car was successful at an NHRA event.

Success followed them throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s as they ran the Top Alcohol Funny Car class. In the ‘90s, the Mallicoats moved to Nostalgia with the Good Guys and the NHRA Heritage classes, most recently earning the 2006 Good Guys AA/GS titles.

This year, Andrew Berry of Atascadero, Calif., a PSCA veteran, has been tabbed to race the Mallicoat Brothers Racing ’68 Barracuda powered by a 450 cubic inch BAE Fat Head Hemi. Berry has raced in blown and unblown Gas classes, as well as PSCA Super Street and NHRA Nostalgia Funny Car. Berry was chosen by the Mallicoats not only for his vast experience, but for his second-to-none reaction times.

Crewing the ‘Cuda for the 2012 PSCA Pro Street campaign are Ron Berry, Pete Wendorf, Bruce Estes, and Steve Snider. The car, with its Tom Chambliss chassis, East West clutch, Lenco transmission, and Kicker Kraft fiberglass body, will be powered by twin Precision Turbo turbochargers.

Sponsoring the team this year are Arias Pistons, BAE, Crane Cams, East-West Clutches, Lenco Transmissions, ERC  Racing Fuel, Red Line Oil, Precision Turbos, Duttweiler Performance, McCabe Headers, and Velasco Crankshafts.
