AACA Past Presidents Racing Cup

Awarded at the Annual Meeting to the best racing car shown at a National Spring or Fall Meet. The winner need not be a new restoration but the same car would not be eligible to win no more than twice. Presented by Seth and Elsa Pancoast in 1971. This cup was originally won in 1910 by Erwin Bergdoll driving a Benz at the famous Point Breeze Racetrack in Philadelphia, Pa.

Editor's Note

The National Award will be presented for the first time at the 1972 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Pa. The races at the Point Breeze Racetrack were conducted by the Quaker City Motor Club. P.D. Folwell, Mrs. Hyde Ballard's father, was chairman of the Contest Board of the Quaker City Motor Club. Mr. Folwell presented this cup to the winner, Erwin Bergdoll, in 1910. Interestingly enough, Mrs. Ballard was the first woman to become a member of the AACA. Elsa and Seth Pancoast also presented to AACA an original photograph of Bergdoll driving a Benz in the 1911 race. The photograph is on display along with the original cup at AACA National Headquarters.
