CONCORD, North Carolina (May 14, 2014) - - On the heels of their first career top-10 finish together in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series last weekend at Kansas Speedway, Win-Tron Racing and Sunoco rookie of the year candidate Mason Mingus look for a repeat performance in this Friday night’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.
Not only does the Mooresville, North Carolina team and driver carry some much needed momentum to their hometown track, but they’ll bring marketing support from Mooresville, North Carolina-based MadVapes as well.
Headquartered in Mooresville, North Carolina, MadVapes is a premier provider of e-cig products, available online as well as their nationwide retail locations.
The team carried their colors in the season-opening NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, but an incident on Lap 73 evaporated their chances of capitalizing on a strong performance. Charlotte brings an opportunity to finish what they started at Daytona for MadVapes.
“I’m ready to go to Charlotte,” said Mingus. “I like the rough and bumpy characteristics of Charlotte more than the smoother race tracks. I would like to carry our momentum from Kansas over to Charlotte and give MadVapes a strong run in their backyard.”
While the Brentwood, Tennessee native has never competed at the fast 1.5-mile oval of Charlotte Motor Speedway before, he did participate in a closed test session at the facility last month. Mingus, in his No. 35 MadVapes Toyota Tundra, was able to experience the transition from daylight to night during the test, which should be vital Friday night.
“I was pretty happy with our test,” added Mingus. “It’s a continual learning curve in these trucks, but I feel with what I learned at the test and at Kansas (Speedway) last weekend, I can apply it to this race and hope it will pay off.”
Win-Tron Racing co-owner Nate Thiesse offered his insight on the team’s outlook to Charlotte.
“We all needed that good run at Kansas,” Thiesse sounded. “We’ve been fast all year, but circumstances created a blockade from showing what Mason and this team is capable of start-to-finish. We’ve worked hard to turn this truck around for Charlotte this week and I think it will pay off with what we hope will be back-to-back top-10 finishes.”
Mingus’s No. 35 MadVapes Toyota Tundra is chassis No. 216, which also turned laps in the 2013 NCWTS season-finale at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway. It is also the same piece that he guided to his first career top-10 finish (10th) on May 9 at Kansas Speedway.
Entering Charlotte, Mingus sits 16th in the championship standings, 22 markers from 10th place held by John Wes Townley. Mingus unofficially sits second in the Sunoco rookie of the year standings behind current leader Ben Kennedy.
The North Carolina Education Lottery 200 is the fourth of 22 races on the 2014 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule. The event will be televised live on FOX Sports 1 on Friday night, May 16 beginning at 8:00 p.m. The green flag is scheduled to drop shortly after 8:30 p.m. All times Eastern.
