Baltimore, MD – Luca Filippi and the Barracuda Racing team earned a 14th place spot on the starting grid for Sunday’s Grand Prix of Baltimore presented by SRT.

The Italian driver is making his return to IndyCar on the streets of Baltimore after a solid debut at Mid-Ohio in early August.

The Barracuda Racing team made improvements throughout the three practices of the race weekend, bettering their session result and lap time with each outing.

Saturday afternoon’s qualifying time of 1:19.1242 puts the Barracuda Racing team in P14 for the 75-lap competition around the 12-turn, 2.04-mile temporary street circuit.

“We improved a lot during most of the qualifying laps, but I made a mistake on the last lap in the first sector,” said Filippi. “I lost enough at the beginning of the lap that we didn’t make it to the Fast 12 group, but the Barracuda Racing car definitely had the pace to do it so it’s looking good for the race. The Barracuda team is working hard and we’ll be ready for tomorrow.”

Team owner Bryan Herta added, “Baltimore is one of the toughest places we race all year. It is great that we can feel disappointed with a 14th place starting spot, knowing there is more speed in the car. Tomorrow should be exciting.”

The Grand Prix of Baltimore will take place on Sunday, September 1 with pre-race activities beginning at approximately 2 p.m. The green flag is scheduled to drop at 2:40 p.m. Fans can catch all the action with the live broadcast on NBC Sports Network.
