Bryan Herta Autosport has reached a mutual agreement with Sebastian Saavedra to conclude his driving contract prior to the close of the 2010 Firestone Indy Lights Series schedule.
“We have opportunities for next season we are keen to start working on immediately as does Sebastian,” said Herta. “It makes sense at this point for us to work on our respective 2011 programs. All of us enjoyed working with Sebastian and wish him well in his career.”
Saavedra piloted BHA’s #29 William Rast entry to a flag-to-flag victory at Iowa Speedway this season and recorded two additional podium finishes at Barber Motorsports Park and Watkins Glen International. He also became the youngest qualifier for this year’sIndianapolis 500 when he made his IZOD IndyCar Series debut with BHA in May. Saavedra was fifth in the Indy Lights championship standings prior to the race at Kentucky Speedway.
While Saavedra regrets he did not finish the season with the team, he is grateful for the opportunity and learning experience.
“I really want to take the opportunity to thank Bryan Herta, Steve Newey and the entire team who worked so hard for me this year,” said Saavedra. “I would like to wish the team well in the future; many thanks.”
BHA will finish its 2010 campaign in the season-ending Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka 100 on October 2 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
