Pomona, Calif. – Although she's not in the NHRA Full Throttle Series' Countdown to 1 championship playoff race, Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Angie Smith is still expecting a big weekend for this weekend's Auto Club NHRA World Finals here this weekend. As a pilot for one of her husband Matt's Buells, the North Carolina native can still help her husband/crew chief finish third in the season point standings as a blocker. After racing to the semi-finals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway two weeks ago, Angie has her eyes set on finishing the 2011 season big.
"We had an awesome race in Vegas hope that momentum carries through this weekend," she said. "It's been a good year for me and we want to end it on a high note."
And it has been a good year for the North Carolina native. She has set personal bests in both speed (193.88 mph) and ET (6.863 seconds) and has earned her way to the semi-final round twice. The best way to finish the season would be to earn her first career win and the last 60th Anniversary pewter Wally this weekend. "That would just be amazing," she said.
