Mercedes-Benz S-Class
Or at least as close as we’ll ever get to it from the prestigious German car maker. Their new S-Class in long wheelbase form is only 0.3 percent more expensive than the outgoing model yet is loaded to the roof lining with many new high technology items. There’s attention assist and crash avoidance in case one’s chauffeur dozes at the wheel and a self-parking system in case one’s chauffeur is just dozy. There’s even cross-wind assist and all this and more is standard.

In the packed options list there’s ‘night-view and much, much more. And that’s just on the safety front.

The self-styled ‘best car … in the world’ is priced competitively because of the strength of competition in the luxury car market. Not only is there the similar big beasts from rival car makers (not least in Germany) but now of course they have got the luxury SUV and four-door coupé market to contend with. It’s hard to go after the ‘best car’ crown when there’s a Range Rover to compete with.

So if you are a big businessman, a big head or just a person who likes to be driven around in style then this car is for you and at around £66,000 it’s an absolute bargain. Apparently.
