Jaguar XKR-S. A Personal Taster

Jaguar XKR-S
Thanks to Jaguar Land Rover for the chance to get touchy feely with one of their very special cars. This little beauty is the XKR-S, five litres of supercharged V8 goodness. From the minute I sat in it, it felt right. This is a very comfortable car, considering its ultimate dark purpose. Plenty of seat adjustment got DriveWrite sitting pretty as the car trickled out of the car park, turning left into a thirty zone.

At low speeds the XKR-S performs like a, shall we say, normal car. It moves forward, there's no urgency and it is easy to get the feeling that this sports car could pootle with the best of them - but then the limit goes up, the road opens and the leaden foot of the driver pushes downward.

Ye Gods! The scenery went past at warp speed. I admit, rather coarsely, that I thought to myself, 'f*****g hell'. I may have said it out loud. Sorry. I'll bet that's the reaction of every first timer in this car, though. Well, what can I tell you? It goes like stink and it handles like a dream. It corners with absolutely no drama at all, staying flat through the bends despite the cretinous things I was probably doing. The fact is my modest ability as a driver ran out before I could unsettle this superb car. The snag? Well, there's just shy of £100k of them, if you add some of the options available here, including a great rear-view camera which makes parking this car a doddle. It probably drinks petrol faster than our light-fingered chancellor can collect the tax but then that's not something you'd worry about if you can afford to buy this car. Your correspondent was like a young man looking at his first pin-up photo but you probably don't want to know about that. It's been a tough day driving JLR's products today but hey, I do it for you. Over the next few days there will be more personal viewpoints on these motors and some great pics going into the gallery too. Watch this space.
