Get Yourself Into A Classic

It is worth passing this on in case you are both available for the day and have some cash burning a hole in your strides. The beautiful car in the image is a 1981 Mercedes-Benz 280SL once owned by The Who’s Roger Daltrey. Despite this slightly worrying provenance it is estimated to sell for between £12,000 to £15,000. That’s a lot of car for the money.
In fact, there’s an incredible line-up of more than 70 stunning cars, including a smattering of other celebrity owned models, will go under the hammer at this year’s CarFest South ‘Pride & Joy’ classic car auction.
The sale, hosted by Silverstone Auctions on Sunday 25th August at Laverstoke Park Farm in Hampshire, quickly follows the hugely successful CarFest North auction which raised an incredible £115,651 for BBC Children In Need.
However, not to be outdone, the CarFest South auction has almost double the number of cars up for auction that were offered at its Northern counterpart, and that’s not to mention the superb collection of charity lots!
Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: “We’ll be looking to add to the amazing amount already raised for BBC Children in Need this summer with our classic car and charity auction at CarFest South”.
Marques represented in the ‘Pride & Joy’ car auction include some of the best in the world such as Bentley, Ferrari, Jaguar, Lotus and Porsche, with models from the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s strongly represented.
Also adding some extra spice are a variety of cars with famous owners including a 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series I that was first owned by famed 1960’s comedian and actor Charlie Drake, estimated at between £40,000 to £45,000, and a 1989 Jaguar XJS, estimated at between £6,000 to £8,000, previously owned by Chris Evans no less and now owned by his colleague Vassos Alexander.
Not surprisingly, many of the charity lots being offered are connected to four-wheels, whether it’s a Santa Pod VIP package, a factory visit to Ferrari in Maranello, Aston Martin in Gaydon or the Ariel Motor Company. There’s even a Ferrari cap signed by Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso.
Auction action starts at 11.30am with viewing all day on the Friday and Saturday, so there’s plenty of opportunity to see the superb collection of cars up close and ‘in the metal’ beforehand. There’s also the opportunity to take part in the action with live on-line bidding or by placing a commission bid with Silverstone Auctions before the event. You might not be able to afford the ‘sleb cars but for classic fans there might just be something for you at a price you can afford.
