Mid American Stock Car Series
June 4, 2014
Thirty drivers from five states will make the pilgrimage this weekend to ‘America’s Legendary Oval,’ the Milwaukee Mile, for the fourth race of the 2014 Mid-American Stock Car Series season.
For the second consecutive year, the Mid-American Stock Car Series takes part in the massive ‘ARCAFest’ event, sharing the stage during the weekend with the ARCA Midwest Tour, JEG’S CRA All Stars Tour, Midwest Super Trucks and IMCA Vintage Racers. The Mid American Stock Car Series is featured this Saturday June 7, the second day of the three-day weekend event.
The 22nd season of Mid-American Stock Car Series has been exciting so far, with three different winners at three different events to start 2014. At Rockford (IL) Speedway back in April, Jeff Holtz took the victory, outrunning the pack in the rain-shortened affair. Nearly a month later, a firm field of Mid-Am machines took to the track at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna Wisconsin for the running of the Vercauteren Memorial Race, with local favorite Tyler Bauknecht picking up the win. Then, six days later, it was Illinois racer Jeremy Spoonmore collecting the checkers at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Spoonmore led an ‘Illinois Sweep’ of the top three spots as Kevin Gentile and Erik Pierce finished second and third respectively.
The entry list for this weekend’s go at Milwaukee is a ‘who’s who’ of Mid-American racing. Current Mid-American Series point leader Jeff Holtz has entered his machine for the action at Milwaukee. Holtz comes into the weekend with a scant one-point lead over 2012 Mid-American Stock Car Series champion Jeremy Spoonmore, who will also be in attendance this weekend. Defending Mid-American Stock Car Series champion Brad Keith returns to action at Milwaukee, after engine problems kept the West Bend Wisconsin driver away from the series’ last stop at Hawkeye Downs.
1996 Mid-American Stock Car Series champion and defending Milwaukee race winner Mark Pluer has filed his entry for this weekend, as has last year’s Milwaukee runner-up and three-time Series champion Bill Prietzel. Also on the entry list is veteran racer Lyle Nowak, the 2010 Mid-American Stock Car Series champion and 1999 series titlist Rick Corso.
Mid-American Stock Car Series teams will practice Friday throughout the day. The first Mid-American Series practice takes the track Friday at 10 AM, while the last practice hits the Mile at 4:20 PM. Saturday morning, Mid-American teams will have two chances to practice, at 9 AM and 11:35 AM. Qualifying takes place after 2:30 PM Saturday, with racing getting underway at 4 PM. The Mid-American Stock Car Series 35 lap feature will be the third and final race of the afternoon.
