FIVE FORMER MID-AM CHAMPIONS AMONG THOSE ENTERED FOR SPRING CLASSIC!

Eric Huenefeld
Mid American Stock Car Series
April 10, 2014

When the Mid-American Stock Car Series rolls into Rockford Speedway this Sunday afternoon for the 37th Annual Spring Classic, the list of challengers will be as deep as it has been in recent memory, with at least five former series champions planning on running the opening race of the 2014 season!

Leading the charge is defending Mid-American Series champion Brad Keith. The West Bend Wisconsin resident collected his first-ever series championship last year, beating 2012 Series champion Jeremy Spoonmore by 74 markers. Keith was a multi-time winner during last year’s championship campaign, racing to victory lane at Hawkeye Downs in May and Jefferson in June.

Speaking of Spoonmore, the 2012 Mid-American Stock Car Series champion has also entered for Rockford, a track where he has found much success. Spoonmore, a native of Somonauk Illinois, is a multi-time winner of the Mid-Am National Short Track Championship race in the fall at Rockford, and finished runner-up in the event last September.

Wausau Wisconsin’s Lyle Nowak will also be in action this weekend at Rockford. Nowak, the 2010 Mid-American Stock Car Series champion, has seen much success at Rockford over the years. The central Wisconsin veteran is a multi-time winner at Rockford, tasting victory at both Spring Classic and National Short Track Championships.

Three-time Mid-American Stock Car Series champion Bill Prietzel is looking to start 2014 in victory lane at Rockford. Prietzel, the “Franklin Flyer”, finished eleventh last year in limited action with the Mid-American Series, winning the mid-August event at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway.

Add 1996 Series champion Mark “Plugger” Pluer to list of entries too. Pluer, who won the Mid-American Series event at the Milwaukee Mile during last year’s ARCAFest, is no stranger to success at Rockford. Pluer has claimed victories at the high banked quarter mile in both Mid-American competition and during Bahama Bracket Nationals.

The 37th Annual Spring Classic takes place this Sunday afternoon April 13 at Rockford Speedway in Loves Park Illinois. The Mid-American Stock Car Series will participate in Rockford’s Spring Classic for the 22nd consecutive year and will contest a 50 lap main event. The Big 8 Late Model Series headlines the day, running a 108 lap feature event. The Illinois Vintage Racers will also be in action, running a 20 lap feature. Spectator gates open at 11 AM, with racing set to begin at 1 PM.
