There are plenty of reasons to be excited for the Mid-American Stock Car Series’ 22nd season, which kicks off Sunday April 13 at Rockford Speedway in Loves Park Illinois as part of the 37th Annual Spring Classic.

For starters, a tidy eleven race schedule awaits racers and fans this season. This summer, the Mid-American Stock Car Series (MASCS) will make stops in four states while running a majority of its races on Saturdays and Sundays. Along with the season opening event at Rockford, the MASCS makes a return to the famed quarter mile on Saturday night September 27 as part of the 49th Annual National Short Track Championships.

The series will return to Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna Saturday afternoon May 10, for the running of the Vercauteren Memorial Race, honoring Mid American Stock Car Series founder Gary Vercauteren. The shift of venue returns the Vercauteren Memorial race to its ‘roots’, as Wisconsin International was Vercauteren’s home track.

Also new to the schedule this season is the first ever MASCS trip to Slinger (WI) Super Speedway on Sunday evening July 13. The MASCS race at Slinger is be part of the ‘Prelude to the Nationals’ event which also includes the Big 8 Late Model Series. The ‘Prelude to the Nationals’ at Slinger precedes the annual ‘Slinger Nationals’ Super Late Model race, to be held Tuesday night July 15.

The MASCS makes a return to the ‘Daytona of the Midwest’, the Milwaukee Mile, for ARCAFest. ARCAFest this season will run Fri-Sun June 6-8. The MASCS takes part in the ‘mega event’ Friday and Saturday this season. Other stops on the 2014 schedule include Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids Iowa (May 16), Jefferson (WI) Speedway (June 21), State Park Speedway in Wausau Wisconsin (July 10), Elko (MN) Speedway (September 20) and two trips to LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem Wisconsin. The first stop at LaCrosse is set for Saturday night August 16, with the second trip to western Wisconsin slated for Saturday night October 4 at Oktoberfest Race Weekend. The Mid American Stock Car Series champion once again will be decided at Oktoberfest.

Television coverage of Mid-American Stock Car Series races continues in 2014, with Sopwith Motorsports again returning to the fold. Sopwith crews will be on site for select Mid American Series events in 2014, filming all the action, which will be aired at a later date. The Sopwith cameras will be rolling May 10 at Kaukauna, June 6 and 7 at Milwaukee, July 10 at State Park, July 13 at Slinger, September 20 at Elko and October 4 at LaCrosse.

Adding to the excitement at each Mid-American Series event this season will be the terrific mix of drivers at each race. So far, six former series champions have registered to run with the MASCS in 2014, including multi-time champion Bill Prietzel, defending champion Brad Keith, central Wisconsin ace Lyle Nowak and Illinois hard chargers Jeremy Spoonmore and Rick Corso. Also returning to Mid-American competition in 2014 on a part-time basis is former series champion Peter ‘Speedy’ Hernandez.

A couple of other drivers planning to make the full Mid-American schedule, David Slack and Ben Glasscock, may go through a couple sets of tires on their haulers as they navigate the highways and biways en route to each series event. Slack, racing out of Engadine Michigan (located in the eastern half of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula) plans to challenge for Mid-American Rookie of the Year honors. Glasscock, who hails from Indianola Iowa (thirty minutes south of Des Moines), was runner up in the 2013 Sportsman division point standings at Hawkeye Downs Speedway, pocketing three feature wins.
