GRUNDY THUNDER IN THE AIR

Matt Panure
Mid American Stock Car Series
June 17, 2013

Fort Atkinson, WI (June 17, 2013) The Digital Fuel Solutions 40 Mid-American Stock Car Series race at the Grundy County Speedway this Friday night, June 21st features local Mid-Am teams. Grundy regulars took advantage of the early entry discount. Kevin Gentile of Elwood, IL, Luke Baldwin of Downers Grove, IL, Tom Knippenberg of Channahon, IL and Chuck Yuris of Lokkport, IL are taking the challenge of the Mid-American Series regulars.

Series regulars are up to the challenge bringing two rookies, two champions and everything in-between to the table as the point race begins exposing potential contenders for 2013 crown.

Déjà vu for Jeremy Spoonmore. The Aubart/Spoonmore team has been working well for the Somonauk, IL racer. The newest member of the Mid-American champion club, Spoonmore is running third in the Series point race, the same position he was in here last year on his way to the top. Just like last year, Lyle Nowak from Wausau, WI, another former champion is nipping at his heels in fourth position. Nowak and Spoonmore thrilled Mid-Am fans last season with their see-saw trip to the top of the pile. The season had to wait until the last race at Oktoberfest at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway to crown Spoonmore Champ.

The difference this year is there is not only a champion nipping at Spoonmore’s heels, there is one in front of him. Mark Pluer is in second place and is an experienced veteran with a very good start to Mid-American’s twenty first season. Pluer’s position could change radically as he has yet to enter the race. In 1996 Pluer led the way to the championship title.

Leading the way and not looking back this season is a hard charging, veteran racer in his second full time Mid-American season. Brad Keith has wheeled metric cars before, competing regularly at Slinger Super Speedway in the Mid-Am class there. This season he bought a different car, went through it with his magic wand and has found himself leading the way going into the fourth race of a twelve race schedule.

Look for these stars and many of the weekly Grundy County Speedway Mid-American cars to mix it up this Friday night, June 21st. Series owner, Doug Strasburg says, “Competition has been extraordinary this season and the quality of racing in this group is unsurpassed.” He continues, “Experience has proven you should expect no less at Grundy!”

Sopwith Motorsports will film seven of the Series races this year, including the June 21st Grundy County Fairgrounds race. The tape-delayed telecasts will be 30-minutes in length, allowing for multiple network airings and broad sampling by new viewers. Rob Klepper (CBS, ESPN2, NBC Sports) will host the show with Olivia Pritchett (TUFF TV, Untamed Sports TV) handling pit interviews. The program will air in a traditional sportscast format that stock car fans will find familiar and easy to watch.
