Mid-Am Makes a Run at Hawkeye Downs

Matt Panure
Mid American Stock Car Series
May 16, 2013

Friday, May 17th, the Mid-American Stock Car Series returns to Cedar Rapids to rattle the grandstands for the first time since 2009. Veteran and multi Mid-Am Champion, Bill Prietzel, endured 90-degree heat and very suppressing humidity to lead Jeremy Spoonmore to victory while heat exhaustion sidelined others on that August day. This year Spoonmore will be there defending his 2012 championship and Prietzel will be there testing the new Champ.

Also in the chase this weekend are locals Dave McCalla of Cedar Rapids, IA, Ben Glascock of Indianola, IA and Brian Gibson of Walford, IA to test the traveling warriors against track experience.

Rookies Dusty Krebs of Hartford, WI, David Slack of Engadine, MI and Dan Gilster of West Salem, WI will be testing their wings after all three had a rough go of it at the Mid-Am Season opener at Rockford Speedway. Mechanical issues prevented Krebs and Slack from competing and Gilster with a severe case of the flu was barely able to drive the car. You can bet they’ll be here for redemption.

Adam Bendzick of Elko, MN and Tim Fulford of Solesbury, IN will travel some distance to join the competition, but will probably fall short of miles travelled to Rookie David Slack. Slack resides in Engadine, MI. That’s nearly three hours of Michigan upper peninsula windshield time before they even get out of their home state.

Join us at 7:00 Friday night at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for Mid-Am qualifying followed by the National Anthem at 7:25 and racing at 7:30. Mid-American will rub fenders for 45 laps when the features begin.
