SIMPLE TEACHING from PSALM 40

That can change our lives today.

Psalm 40:1-3

"I waited patiently for the LORD;
He turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
He set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear
and put their trust in the LORD."

Last week I shared this with those attending chapel at MIS and thought it would be good to share again. Hopefully it is as insightful to you as it has been to me while I continued to think about it.

Verse 1 is I waited patiently for the LORD; He turned to me and heard my cry. How does it work if you just drive yourself into the corner when someone is there and no space? It costs you nights in the shop, parts, set up time, money, time from your family and so on. It is better to be patient and wait for the opening. It is the same way with the LORD. It is better to wait for Him and His perfect timing. The second half of the verse says that God heard my cry. That amazes me every time I think about it. God, the Creator, the all knowing wants to hear from me. It is like any relationship, there has to be talking and listening. We need to spend time in our prayer time listening. How is your prayer life right now?

Verse 2 is He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. This is a favorite as I was really deep in the mud when God reached out for me. This one too amazes me because of how He reached me. I know that He can reach anyone as I was filthy in sin and He rescued me so He can rescue you. Not only did He rescue me but He set my feet on the solid, unshakable Rock of Jesus Christ the Lord. Now I can stand firm and so can you.

Verse 3 is He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD. What words come from your mouth? I know we have been working on Ephesians 4:29 this week in our house. Our words should reflect Jesus but the songs we sing should too. SO we should not be saying “OM…” and not thinking we just spoke the name of the Life Giver. We should be praising God for what we see Him doing. Hopefully we are an example that draws others to God and that they too will fear God and place their trust in the LORD! Where is your trust? What is your song? Have you caught the works of the LORD around you even today?
