Hunger Task Force Benefits From Fan Participation Event
The Sunday, May 6 “Drive The Mile” event was deemed a major success by Milwaukee Mile officials. The fifth annual opportunity for race fans to drive their own car around the historic speedway involved over 1,000 enthusiasts.
An estimated 2,700 pounds of non-perishable food items for the Hunger Task Force and families in need in the Milwaukee area were collected, as participants were encouraged to donate two items as part of their admission to take three laps around The Mile.
Mini-vans, hot rods, motorcycles, even a large dump truck were among the throng of fans who took advantage of the traditional “Drive The Mile” event held on the first Sunday in May at The Mile, the worlds oldest active motor speedway.
Over 500 “Drive The Mile” car show participants took laps around The Mile in the morning, with the general public allowed to take their turn around America’s Legendary Oval from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
In addition to the vintage race cars, Mid-American stock cars and hundreds of exotic, vintage and classic cars on display, the Gilbert Brown Foundation offered a variety of children’s activities, with radio station remotes, music and photos in victory lane all part of the successful event’s activities.
Super Bowl-winning Green Bay Packers players Santana Dotson, Brian Williams and Milwaukee Mile shareholder Gilbert Brown judged the car show and mingled with race fans and car show participants.
The Milwaukee Mile would like to acknowledge and thank the Loser’s Car Club, Ed Kalashian, the Mid-American Stock Car Series and Daniel’s Catering for their involvement in “Drive The Mile.”
