MEMORIAL DAY 2014

Pastor Todd Christopherson
Mid American Stock Car Series
May 24, 2014

As we come to another Memorial Day and another year where this nation has lost soldiers in conflict I hope we pause and think about the families that have lost loved ones. I hope we stop and thank a soldier, whether they are serving now or served in the past. I hope you stop and really think about the cost of war and the freedom we get to enjoy because others have served and paid a price, a high price.

One way to serve is as a soldier but there are others that serve and are at risk often. Think about EMT’s, firefighters, hospital workers and law enforcement. They too risk safety and even life. The Bible also teaches us that those that serve God will be soldiers for Christ too. In this country that does not mean much but again today I heard of an American pastor that is in jail and being beaten often to near death.

Here is an example of how we are to serve and the attitude of a true servant:

Acts 7:54-60; 54 Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth at him. 55 But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” 57 But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together[b] at him. 58 Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. 59 And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.”

Look at the three-fold prayer and attitude of Stephen. 1) He is focused on God and seeing His greatness. It is vital that we are focused on what God has for us and focused on learning all we can about the LORD. 2) Stephan does request to be accepted by LORD Jesus. I think it is important for us to catch the word “LORD”. That is who Jesus is, LORD. We need to bow to Him as Master, as LORD. 3) He is thinking about others first. That is one of the true and great marks of a good soldier, of a good servant.

How are you doing thinking about others first?

Again I say, “thank you” to those who have served, are serving and will serve. Hope you know the mighty extent of the LORD’s love, and how much He cares for you. He cares for you to the point of dying on the cross and offering salvation to all that will repent and turn to Him, agree that He is LORD and come under His authority even right now where ever you are.

Have a safe weekend, remember those that are serving, those that have fallen and have a great day racin’ in the SONshine. Hope to see you at a local short track this weekend,

Pastor Todd
