Happy Thanksgiving 2013

This is a special time of the year when many come together and set aside things to slow down and give thanks. That is a good thing for us to do. There is much to be thankful for as we are surely given an easy life here in America compared to other places on earth. Most of the problems we have we bring on to ourselves and usually because of sin on our part.

I need to extend a couple of thanks from the end of the season racing events. I try not to talk too much about how the racing ministry is financed but several times in the last couple of weeks of racing I was asked directly about just how the ministry is funded.

We are blessed to have a home church that gives a small monthly gift to us. Most of our funding is self funding. Like what we see in the epistle of Paul, we are “tent makers”, in other words we self fund but there are those that come along side of us and help. Several times in the last few weekends of this season we were blessed by others. You know who you are – THANK YOU!!! It was unexpected but so useful. We are a shoe string ministry so the gift of any size adds up to bless and keep us going.

You may ask what needs we have. As many of you know, one of the commitments we made was that we were going to do the ministry as a family which means taking the seven on the road. We are allowed to have an older RV to take to many of the races but there are still hotel costs at some. We have meal cost and ticket cost. We also try to have materials available too. The LORD has used many to bless us and keep the ministry at the race and traveling with different series.

As we come to Thanksgiving this year I want us to think about a couple of verses. Let’s read them. Matthew 28:9 Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to Him, clasped His feet and worshiped Him. (from NIV) and now from the KJV And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held Him by the feet, and worshipped Him. Now let’s read Mark 15:18 And they began to call out to him, "Hail, king of the Jews!"

In Mark we see those mocking and making fun of Jesus. Unfortunately, far too often there are those that mock Jesus today. Instead we are to be like those in Matthew that proclaim, “All hail to Thee, Jesus!” This is a bold statement of faith and truth in Jesus. It is a statement that has consequences. These people were taking a stand for Jesus as their LORD and proclaiming He is due their worship. They recognize that He alone is due praise and thanks for setting them free from sin and moving them from an eternity in hell to an eternity in heaven. They knew that even though things are going to be tough on earth they are blessed and have so much to look forward to. THEY ARE THANKFILLED AND THANKFUL.

There is so much for each one of us to be thankful for. I hope you pause and give thanks to others and most of all that you thank the LORD for all He has done and is doing. Have a happy Thanksgiving.
