John Chapter 19

Sometimes do you just wonder, what is really going on?

In racing I wonder how did that guy get so much better? As a fan I know they think, what is going on that so and so is not at the races or if someone pulls off they wonder what really happened but the big question is how did what, what really went on. You know if you are involved it is the other guys fault no matter what happened. Think about Tony and Matt…

In marriage we can have the same thing. What are they really thinking? What is really going on that they are short or grumpy or happy or sad.

Well we are getting to the very end of John and there are people wondering what is really going on still. We have gone through three years of Jesus’ life and 19 chapters of John and there are still questions of who He is. Do you have questions? For those that have followed along I hope you have discovered the truth about Jesus and solidified that Jesus is LORD, Master, God.

Let’s look at what happens here:
John 19:1-7 1 Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. 2 The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe 3 and went up to him again and again, saying, "Hail, king of the Jews!" And they struck him in the face. 4 Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews, "Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him." 5 When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said to them, "Here is the man!" 6 As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, "Crucify! Crucify!" But Pilate answered, "You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him." 7 The Jews insisted, "We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God."

Again we get a deity echo! The Jews knew that Jesus was claiming to be God. Some can question if Jesus claimed to be God and we have seen no less than 12 times that he did claim to be God, and you can easily find others here and throughout the Bible. We also see that there were different people with the wrong conclusion about Jesus. The powerful government and the power religious of the day got it wrong. Stop and really think about that. Then we see Pilate try to wash his hands of it. We cannot think that we can just ignore what we decide and think about Jesus.

John 19:23-24 23 When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. 24 "Let's not tear it," they said to one another. "Let's decide by lot who will get it." This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled which said, "They divided my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing." So this is what the soldiers did.
I want to stop for a moment on another echo – “That the scripture might be fulfilled”. We talked about it already but here we are reminded that there were prophecies about Jesus and they all have been fulfilled except His return and we wait for that. The statistical probability is staggering that one man and only one man can and has completed all of these!

John 19:35-37 35 The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. 36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: "Not one of his bones will be broken," 37 and, as another scripture says, "They will look on the one they have pierced."
Just looking at the first part where we are shown an example of seeing what happened and crediting the LORD.
And the reason we testify is to see that others may believe. So are you left with any questions you want to ask?
