We are praying for those in the South as they were hammered with another storm. Also we are thanking the LORD as we have this weekend and the work He gives to each one of us. He gives us the ability and talent we have. We are also thanking God for the offering that the MIS fans provided at the Faster Pastor Charity Race. Both the River and Salvation Army wanted me to say thanks to each one that gave.
For those who want to stay caught up on our study in John here is the week’s study notes:
We have worked through much of the season and it is the time of the year for the end of the year races. At the same time we have worked through most of Jesus work on earth but have the finishing work to happen. Just like in this race season the final standings are yet to be determined and some great things can happen, it is all on the finishes. In the Book of John the “finish” is vital too. So I am praying that you all dig deep and finish well.
Now we turn to chapter 18 of the book of John. John 18:4-8 4 Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, "Who is it you want?" 5 "Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "I am he," Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) 6 When Jesus said, "I am he," they drew back and fell to the ground. 7 Again he asked them, "Who is it you want?" And they said, "Jesus of Nazareth." 8 "I told you that I am he," Jesus answered.
We have taken notice of this throughout the book of John. It is a clear I am, deity statement. Three times here Jesus says, “I am!” Have you stopped and noticed the “I am” statements and stopped and worshiped? We should each time we get to them.
John 18:27 Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow. We know the story. Peter is close to Jesus and sat under His teaching but here he turns and says, “I don’t know Him.” Then he hears the crow. OUCH! Can you think of times like that? Here is what I find fascinating – Peter stumbles along in his faith and yet is used in mighty ways. There must have been tremendous times of faithfulness.
John 18:38 "What is truth?" Pilate asked. We finish with this. It is a great question if Pilate was really looking for truth. But he was not. Too many ask questions hoping for a answer that suits them, makes them comfortable but Jesus always answers with truth and calls us to repentance.
So as we get towards the end of the season and the book of John we want to be on the right side of the finishing line. Have the right answers and seek the truth and Jesus.
Have a great day racin’ in the SONshine,
Todd
