First, we need to lift up those in Colorado. We pray for those that have lost homes and had damage. It is hard to put into words the sorrow I, we, have as we see the power of the flames over the mountain tops. Yet there is one more powerful that we look to. Read Psalm 93:1-5 with me: "The LORD reigns, He is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed in majesty and is armed with strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. The seas have lifted up, O LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea-- the LORD on high is mighty. Your statutes stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days, O LORD."
Second, we come before the LORD and thank Him for this nation we are allowed to live in. As we come up to the 4th of July we do celebrate the Day of Independence and allowing this nation to be birthed in to existence. It was founded on Biblical teachings and principles. We have strayed from some of them but we are still a great nation with much more freedom then many. Sometimes that freedom gets in the way of things that are godly but it (freedom) allows us to be tested by God on what choice we will make in different areas of life. I would pray that our choices are made with Colossians 3:1b-2 "....set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." And Philippians 4:8-9 "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me-put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you." Those are great guiding principles.
Third, freedom is not free and we think of those that have served, are serving and will serve. May God put an end to war and protect the soldiers. May He comfort the families of those that have been involved in war and those who are involved in war.
Fourth, may you have a safe July 4th and pause for a few minutes and give thanks to God.
