Tomorrow starts the week-long honoring of the Armed Forces. It is a week that is highlighted with Saturday May 21, 2011 as Armed Forces Day. In 1949, the day was set aside to honor those that serve this great nation in the five armed forces. In 1962, President Kennedy made it an official holiday. Enough of the history lesson.
Although we live in some trying times in this country we still have great freedom and live in a great nation. We are afforded many luxury’s that would be unthinkable in other parts of the world, both physical and freedom-wise. Most of us have a home, running water, drinkable water, electricity, plenty of food and clothing. There are many parts of this world that every day there are wars and gun shots being fired, safety is not a presumption. There are parts of the world that do not. I have been places that don’t have those things we expect. Someday I will expound on this more completely.
Many of the freedoms we have are due to those that have served, will serve and are serving right now. Thank you for your sacrifice. I also want to thank the first responders out there, like those that are fire-fighters, police, hospital workers, EMT, Thank you.
So today, this week, please take time to thank a service man or woman for their work. Don’t forget the spouses that also sacrifice.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 1:16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.
See you at a track soon and have a great day racin’ in the SONshine,
Todd
