ARE YOU READY?

Pastor Todd Christopherson

Are you ready? Meetings are happening, cars are being built, skin is going on. Some, even painting and getting the decals on. I can close my eyes and almost smell the oils and rubber and hear the sounds of engines and tires. Are you ready?

For Christmas we made our annual visit to my parents and my Dad was telling a story I want to share with a Spiritual application. It started with him asking me how my feet were, I have problems I deal with daily. I had also stepped on a needle, so He asked if I had healed. I told him they were fine and it healed ok. Then he said it reminded him of when Grandpa had a problem like that.

My Grandfather was a tough guy, so much so he once had a problem with his knee and figured it was just the knee or some shrapnel from WWI that they missed. A while later after it bugged him enough, he noticed something coming through the skin. So he had a doctor look at it and the doc pulled out a good size sewing needle. Grandpa said he remembered stepping on something that when through his boot but could not find anything. The doctor said it was a good thing that the needle came through the skin because it could have gone all the way to his heart and killed him.

As I thought about this story, I realized a couple of great Spiritual truths in it. We can step into sin and not pay attention and years later it damages us. Grandpa had to feel it at different times but chose to ignore it. We often do that with sin and should not. We need to be confessing sin and coming clean with God. I tried to explain “confession of sin” to one of my kids the other day. God knows our sin but he wants us to admit to it (confess it), agree with God how ugly and awful it is and repent of it, turn from it. We need to confess and repent of sin to have a right relationship with the LORD. Sin damages that relationship just like in a marriage, wrong acts damage the marriage relationship.

Secondly, sin does damage and if we do not deal with it things happen, bad things. James 1:15 says: Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Can you see how serious sin is? Have you prayed Psalm 139:23-24 "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." We need to be praying daily, asking God to show us our sin, confessing and repenting of the sin. It leads to death, which is that serious.

Have a great day racin’ in the SONshine,

Todd
