RANDLEMAN, North Carolina (March 29, 2012) - - NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (NWAAS) standout Ryan Wilson is looking for a little cooperation from Mother Nature this weekend as he returns to his hometown track of Caraway (N.C.) Speedway for a pair of 50-lap shootouts this Saturday night, March 31.
Wilson and his Ryan Wilson Motorsports (RWM) team have attempted to race twice thus far in 2012 at Southern National (N.C.) Motorsports Park and Caraway (N.C.) Speedway respectively but both events have been plagued by rain. After a week’s postponement, the RWM team led by veteran Kirk Bryant was able to deliver two top-10 performances at SNMP in their season-opener.
With last weekend’s race at Caraway washed away by consistent rain, Wilson, who lives within five minutes of the track in Randleman, North Carolina is hoping that Saturday’s skies will be crystal clear, so he can put his No. 12 Southern Pharmacy Services / Randolph Bank Toyota Camry in contention for their first checkered flag of the season.
“I can’t remember where we’ve have had such a precarious start to a season because of weather,” said Wilson, the 2010 fall winner of
Richard Petty Driver Search II. “I think we’ll be okay this weekend and that’s good news for everyone because the fans definitely deserve to come out and see some great racing.”
He added, “We’re super prepared for the season and especially this weekend, but we’re also really anxious to race. I’ll admit it, when you’re at the racetrack and the event is either canceled or postponed because of weather, it just leaves you with a bleak feeling. But, it’s a new week and 50 laps go quick at Caraway, so we have to stick to our game plan and be ready for almost anything. This team deserves a trip back to Victory Lane and I’m going to do everything in my power to deliver that on Saturday night. The intensity picks up when it’s a night race, but I think it could be an advantage to us; we just have to be at the right place at the right time with our No. 12 Southern Pharmacy Services / Randolph Bank Toyota Camry.”
The 20-year old also wasn’t shy to convey that his team still has sponsorship opportunities available for Saturday night’s anticipated thrillers and for the remainder of the team’s aggressive 2012 Late Model schedule.
“As always, we’re thrilled and appreciative to have the support of Southern Pharmacy Services and Randolph Bank on our Toyota Camry – but we still have some room on the car if someone wants to jump aboard,” Wilson sounded. “This is a team with a lot of passionate and drive, and anyone who joins our team will be greatly appreciated.”
Action begins at Caraway (N.C.) Speedway on Saturday, March 31 with practice beginning at 1:00 p.m., qualifying is set for later in the afternoon with an on-track autograph session etched in the schedule beginning at 6:15 p.m. The Spring Classic is set to roar shortly after 7:00 p.m.
